New £25,000 Sports Legacy Grant for Devon Launched

The Exeter Foundation has revealed it is offering a Devon Sporting Legacy Project Grant – for the second year in succession.  Charity chairman Tony Rowe announced the news at the 21st Devon Sports Awards held at Sandy Park on 22nd June.

The Foundation, which is the official charity of the Exeter Chiefs, is making available up to £25,000 of match funding to support an existing organisation’s sporting legacy project.  The money will be available for a Devon-based project, which will help enhance the local area and community.

Chairman of the Exeter Foundation, Tony Rowe OBE, said: “The trustees and I first came up with the idea of a sporting legacy fund last year and it, unsurprisingly, proved incredibly popular.  This is an opportunity for us to champion local community and grass-roots sport, whilst at the same time creating a legacy here in Devon.”

It is hoped that the successful recipient will be a landmark project which will benefit current and future sporting stars of the county.

The winners of year’s legacy project cash were the Falcons Gymnastics Academy in Barnstaple.  They were granted £18,000 to replace an out-of-date performance floor.

Set up six years ago, the Exeter Foundation has raised more than £1 million, which has been distributed to almost 100 different charities and organisations.  Mr Rowe said: “The aim of the Foundation is to create a lasting legacy for as many people as we possibly can.  “We are once again looking forward to receiving the applications for our second Sporting Legacy Project Grant.”

This year’s application form is available for download (below) and needs to be returned to legacy@exeterfoundation.org.uk or by post to Sandy Park Stadium. The deadline for applications is Friday 17th August 2018.

The winner will be announced at the Season Launch Dinner taking place at Sandy Park early September.
