In 2005 David was head hunted to establish Clydesdale Bank’s new operation in Devon & Cornwall. David has been the Managing Partner of the region ever since.
“I had a totally blank canvas. I was handed keys to new offices in Exeter and Plymouth. There were no customers and no staff. I was given the opportunity of creating my own dream. I was to run my own business with someone else’s money! The key factor was that I was being asked to create and lead a new style of relationship banking in the region where my senior staff ‘partner’ with our customers and our customers are called ‘members’ because they belong to the Clydesdale Club and have access to our expertise and facilities. I was breaking new ground.”
David has been in banking for 23 years and has gathered a lot of diverse experience along the way. This has included 12 years in corporate banking, a spell advising small businesses, a national telephone banking project, regional credit risk and latterly debt recovery, regional planning and IT manager.
When not working David likes to spend time with his family. “Playing with my three young sons is great fun and watching them develop is very fulfilling. I help coach the Under 12s at Exeter Chiefs and I’m a parent Governor at my sons’ school. Occasionally I get to play golf.”
