The Exeter Foundation is pleased to announce their support of the Soundwaves music project ‘Tuesday Chill-Out Sessions’. After receiving an application for grant to allow the sessions to commence in November for the foreseeable future, the Foundation met with Adrian Bull, the Chief Officer at the project to find out more about the cause and learn how the Foundation may be able to assist.
Since inception in 2005 the main aim of the Soundwaves Music Project was to provide adults and young people (16+) with learning difficulties (of a varied kind) the opportunity to meet weekly and create music together. Over time the Saturday group has slowly expanded, making the session louder and more boisterous, which made it clear not all members of the group were getting fully involved.
Therefore, in 2010/ 11, Soundwaves commenced a Tuesday evening “Chill-Out” group as a pilot. This proved to be successful with both new and previous participants, giving those who need a quieter environment the chance to discover what they can achieve.
The sessions, all based in Exeter, encourage the participants to sing and play instruments as well as the opportunity to write, record and perform their compositions. Running a small group allows the group facilitator and support worker time to really offer one-to-one support that is often needed to help people participate. In addition, Soundwaves are creating local employment opportunities as well as opportunities for people to volunteer.
The Foundation is very supportive of the club and is delighted with the success of the unbelievable hard work of the organisers involved. We look forward to following the progress of the ‘Chill-Out’ sessions and their impact on those in the community they support.
The clubs first official night is due to be on Tuesday 15th November 2011. For further information please visit
